    Description

Presented is a superb English sterling silver jewelry box made by William
Comyns.  The top of the box is decorated with cherubs or angels amid clouds. The
edge of the top is bordered with flowers, scrolls and leaves.  The box has a
velvet lined drawer at the front that pulls out.  Everything is exceptionally
well made with little sterling silver screws to join the piece together.  The
quality of the craftsmanship is excellent, certainly much better than average.
The box is hallmarked on the back with the lion passant for sterling silver,
the leopard’s head for London, the date letter ‘e’ for 1900, and a maker’s mark
of WC for William Comyns.  The drawer is also stamped on the front with the lion
passant, the leopard’s head, and the date letter.
The condition is excellent.  There are no dents, no splits, no monograms, no
monogram removals, no breaks, and no repairs.
The jewelry box measures 5 5/8 inches by 9 inches by 2 1/4 inches tall.
The total weight is 779 grams or 27.3 ounces. This weight includes the wood
on the interior and the base.
