Description
Presented is a fabulous, Irish sterling silver salver or tray made by William Homer of Dublin in 1772. The tray is raised on three classical hoof-form feet. The rim is decorated with raised festoons of beads in between decorative medallions and shell accents. The very edge of the rim is gadrooned. The center has an old crest of a rampant lion holding a wreath of flowers. The back is marked with the crowned harp and Hibernia mark for Dublin and sterling silver, a date letter Z for the year 1772 and a maker’s mark for William Homer.
This piece is in great overall condition for its age. There are some solder repairs to the rim at two different sections of the tray, which we have photographed below. There are a couple of incredibly slight dents to the surface of the tray, but they are only really visible when looking at the piece at an angle. There are no breaks, no splits, no monogram removals.
The tray measures 8 1/4 inches long, is 1 1/2 inches tall and weighs 376 grams or 13.3 ounces.
