    Description

Presented is a wonderful English Georgian sterling silver two-handled cup of good weight. The cup is done in traditional form with two applied handles and a threaded band around the center.
The cup is marked on the underside with the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard’s head crowned for London, the date letter ‘a’ for 1776, and a maker’s mark of JM for Jacob Marsh or perhaps John Moore.
The cup is in fair condition. Someone has removed a monogram from one side of the cup. This has caused thinning of the metal as well as a small vertical split which is about 1/2 inches long. There is another small split near the upper juncture of one of the handles. There are a few dents to the rim and one small repair to a bend on the rim. There is also a repair to the threaded band around the center of the cup. There are no other splits and no other repairs. When the cup is viewed from one side the old monogram is still partially visible, but when the cup is viewed from the other side it looks better.
The cup measures 3 7/8 inches in diameter and 5 3/4 inches tall.
The weight is 331.6 grams or 11.6 ounces.
