    Description

This is an Antique 1909 English Hallmarked Sterling Silver Topped Glass Powder / Dresser / Vanity Jar.
At the time of the original listing, this is one of the remaining items being listed from a large number of antique and vintage items purchased in England.  These items are an eclectic mix including gold and sterling jewelry, and many unique, and in some cases, one of a kind items, in wood, brass, and iron, and other materials as well.
At the time of this listing we are listing 5 hallmarked sterling topped English powder / vanity / dresser jars, for of which are antique, and the other one vintage, in a variety of sizes, shapes, and designs.  The hallmarks correspond to dates of 1883, 1904, 1911, 1914, and 1977, respectively.
Also among the items from England are quite a variety of hallmarked sterling and gold pieces including decanter labels / tags, salt and mustard spoons, and jewelry.
The jar is 2" tall with a 1 3/4" diameter.  It weighs 2.5 ounces.
This jar is an Art Nouveau period piece, and the lid is a beautiful example of English Art Nouveau design.
The lid is decorated with beautiful floral, leaf, and scrollwork motifs with a plain area in the center that would have been used to add an optional monogram. I found the following allusion to monograms in Victorian times online:
"In the Victorian era, monograms became a symbol of aristocracy.  Believing that monogram letters marked on their table linens, cutlery and other household goods was a sign of prestige, upper class families became veritable monogram generators."
The outer circumference of the lid is stamped with a set of English hallmarks, as seen. The hallmarks are:
Makers Mark - WA I found multiple attributions for WA for Birmingham silversmiths.  The mark on this piece is in an elongated rectangle cartouche with beveled corners, and the WA letters have serifs that appear to me to consistent with one of several marks for William Adams Ltd., Barr Street, Birmingham
Town / Assay Mark - The Anchor of Birmingham.
Silver purity mark - The lion passant indicating sterling silver purity
    Date letter - lower case
    k
in the font style and cartouche style for Birmingham Cycle VI, 1909
PLEASE NOTE:  On several of the photos there are reflections inside the open monogram areas, and also on the outer, curved rim, such as seen in one of the photos showing the monogram.
    Condition
There are no chips or cracks in the glass.
The lid has several small shallow dents around the outmost, widest circumference of the lid as seen.  These are fairly minor, but please review the photos and make your own assessment in that regard as well.
