Description
~ Gorgeous Sterling Silver Matched Georgian Tea Set in the Rare Cape Pattern in excellent condition ~~ Made by John Lambe and William Cattell and assayed in London between 1779 and 1784 ~
~ During the Reign of George III ~
This lovely 18th Century English Matched Tea Set is of Circular Form on circular rim bases
with half-fluted waists and weighs 593 grams all in.
The Bachelor's Teapot is in wonderful condition, has it's original fruitwood handle and finial,
measures 7 3/8" L spout to handle x 4 1/8" W x 4 1/2" H, and weighs 308 grams all in.
There is one very, very slight bruise to the side of the teapot that does not distract.
The teapot has the following hallmarks on the base ~
Makers' Mark 'I*L' for John Lambe
Lion Passant (on both body and lid)
Leopard's Head Crowned
Date Letter 'd' for 1779 London
The creamer with S Scroll handle measures 4" spout to handle, 2 3/4" W x 2 3/8" H, and weighs 105 grams.
The creamer has the following hallmarks on the base ~
Makers' Mark 'I*L' for John Lambe
Lion Passant
Leopard's Head Crowned
Date Letter 'i' for 1784 London
The sugar bowl with S Scroll handles measures 5 7/8" across the handles, 3 5/8" W x 4" H, and weighs 180 grams.
The sugar bowl has the following hallmarks on the base ~
Makers' Mark 'WC' for William Cattell
Lion Passant
Leopard's Head Crowned
Date Letter 'd' for 1779 London
