    Description

We knew nothing about Armada dishes until this beautiful little gem walked through the doors!
And our amazement continued when we realized that the maker was Richard Comyns (William Comyns & Sons Ltd.) who is one of England's preeminent silversmiths. And, they know their silver as they have been in the silver business since the 17th century.
The armada trays also have a history of their own. There are many theories  and some say they were made from silver captured from Spanish treasure ships returning from the new world.  Maybe true - or maybe just a romantic notion. We do know that during the civil war (between 1642-1651), they were buried in a field only to be rediscovered in 1827.  (Personally, we would never have forgotten were we buried our silver.)  The collection of Armada dishes can be seen on display at British Museum.
While many silversmiths copy the Armada dishes, Comyns is considered one of the finest with their attention to detail.
Today, we think this would make a perfect ring dish for that special bling.   And we know this won't be buried in your back yard.
This stunning dish is 3 1/4" wide and 1/2" in height and weighs 44.3 grams.  It has the appropriate hallmarks and was assayed in London, 1982.
Based on customer preference, we only lightly polish our silver.
