Tiffany STYLE, A Massive and Monumental Victorian Sterling Silver and Silver Plate Tea Caddy. From an English Estate.
This exceptional antique Victorian sterling silver and silver plate tea caddy has a high domed rectangular shaped form.
The body of this large tea caddy is further ornamented with a bright cut engraved leaf bordered oval cartouche of the God ZEUS on either side.
The caddy is fitted with the original locking mechanism; the lock is fully operational. This was to keep the servants *OUT* of the precious tea stashes.
This impressive antique Victorian caddy retains the original internal divider, as to be expected with such a large caddy.
Featuring 5 large scenes of Greek Mythology, including Aphrodite heralded by 3 singing cherubs, Venus emerging from the sea, Apollo sounding his trumpet and Zeus with his staff of lightning, riding on his carriage with stallions in the foreground.
The Largest Victorian Tea Caddy we have EVER Seen. Measuring at 11 inches wide, 7 inches tall and 6 1/2 inches deep. The interior features two caddies one for green tea and the other for black tea.
There are both sterling silver plates AND silver plates
(over the decorative emblems) the main form of the box is solid copper, and silver plated. The lid is lined with red velvet, and the base has the original wooden slide.
Weighing in at 7 1/2 lbs!!
The overall condition is very good with some polishing of the silver plate scenes revealing copper underneath.
